Take my hand

Just call me the domestic goddess. Today has been one of those days that I have found solace in my kitchen. Of course first I had to pull myself out of bed (it didn’t happen until 1:00). I think that I was a little more exhausted than I even knew. Maybe it was a way to hide from the world and maybe not. Okay so I really wasn’t asleep the whole time. There was some scripture reading that occurred and some chatting intermittently scattered between sleep. It did feel good, I won’t lie.

Anyway, after I finally decided that it was time to join the world and had made myself presentable, I immediately knew what I wanted to do. I love cooking. I love baking. I love spending time making delicious treats that make people smile. It is something that I don’t do enough of because well, cooking for myself is not as exciting as doing it for other people. Well that, and I really don’t know how to cook for anything but a small army.

So I spent the afternoon with flour flying. I made bread, sugar cookies, cream cheese brownies, oriental chicken salad and taco soup. I also did some cleaning and laundry in between all of that. I haven’t spent that much time in my apron for way too long. I still have flour on my shirt sleeves and a little on my face, but what fun is cooking without a little mess?! When I came back home tonight, my house smelled yummy and gave me that feeling of walking into my mom’s home. I half expected her to be in the kitchen to greet me with a hug and a treat, ready to listen to my stories of the day. It is nice to know that one of my talents is found in the kitchen.

It did my heart good to have an ice cold glass of milk and a slice of hot, fresh homemade bread straight out of the oven with butter.
