I don’t know much......

I do know that I am happiest when I don’t worry about what life has in store and I just sit back and enjoy what I have right now.

Just a couple of random thoughts for the day

Thought #1

I am a huge fan of the thunder and lightening storms that we have been having over the last several days. Yesterday I had several things after work that I needed to accomplish. I went straight from work to my first stop. When I came back outside an hour and a half later, it was pouring rain. Although I knew that I had to be somewhere else in an hour, I took my time walking around for a while in the warm summer rain until I was drenched. As I sat by the reflection pool looking up at the rain coming down and feeling it slid down my face, life was peaceful for a moment.

As I am listening to the rain fall outside right at this very moment, regardless of the lateness of the hour.....I am tempted to go outside, sprawl out on the grass and just enjoy the down fall of that warm summer rain combine with a majestic thunder and lightening show. It is nights like these that I wish that there was someone who wouldn’t mind getting a little wet going on a walk with me without an umbrella.

Thought #2

A friend came into work to see me this afternoon. I haven’t seen him in a few months, but that is typical. He greeted me with one of his hugs that makes me just melt into his arms. He is about 6’ 5” tall and he always bends down and allows me to wrap my arms around his neck and then he picks me up off the floor and just holds me tight for as long as I want. He then spent the next hour telling me about all of his dating traumas. It is amazing to me how much some guys date. Usually in return they are always amazed that I never date, however he told me today that it is because I am so intense. What? What does that mean? Anyone have any takes on that?

And last, but not least....the thought of the day at work today......

“Well I don’t think so! I seriously do not think God goes around damning people to hell. (Throwing her arms up to direct attention to the world) He is too busy running all this!”
Leslie Burke, Bridge to Terabithia

I really wish that someone would have warned me to watch this movie with a box of Kleenex within reach. Although I purchased the book when I heard that they were making a movie, I still have yet to get it to the top of my reading pile so I was taken back by some of the happenings and tears ran freely down my face.

I have watched the movie now quite a few times. With each viewing, I find more and more things I truly appreciate about the film. The graphics are fabulous. The morals of the story are in much need of repeating. The characters are easy to connect with in more than one way. I am beginning to sense though that my true love of this movie is growing because I am enraptured with the power of imagination.

Growing up in a large family in close quarters, we were usually told to go outside and play. Without imagination, life would have been incredibly dull and the days long. I remember building forts out in the field and fighting wars with invisible armies. I remember sleeping out on the lawn and making up stories that made us scream and then laugh until our sides hurt. I remember driving the car to Grandma Murtel’s (our pretend grandma) in our make believe car. I remember being the star of a movie. I remember baking cakes (better known as mud pies) for people that were in need. I remember being anything that I wanted to be at any given moment of any day.

Sometimes I will still catch myself slipping into my world, the world that I have created and I find myself very content to stay for a while before entering the world that most of the time I have no control over.

I am in love!!

That was one of the BEST concerts that I have ever attended!! That man could sing me to sleep every night and I wouldn't complain!!

Almost a perfect evening....

It doesn't get much better than that.

Do you know which way you receive/give love?

I have always been intrigued with this subject. I think that a lot of it has to do with the fact that the way I want to receive love is not necessarily the same way that I choose to give love. I always found that a little odd because most people have a tendency to do it all one way because they figure if that is how they feel loved it must be the same way others like to receive it. I have come to realize why I receive love a different way than I choose to give love. I will explain later.

The five love languages are as follows:

- Words of Affirmation (verbal appreciation)
- Quality Time
- Receiving Gifts
- Acts of Service
- Physical Touch

Even as a baby I knew what I wanted. My parents always tell me what a pill I was even as an infant. I insisted on being rocked to sleep in their arms. As soon as they knew they had me in a deep sleep, they would quietly walk to the crib and attempt to put me in it. However no sooner had I left the comforts of being close to their body, my little eyes would pop open and it would be another round of rocking. I crave physical touch.

Growing up I found myself in a family that had very distinctive personal space bubbles. Physical touch was not given unless the boys decided that it was home version of WWF night. That was always fun (please be sure to read that statement with the sarcasm running out of it that I intended to have in it). Now I am not saying that I went without. I got plenty of hugs from Mom and Dad and my grandparents to know that I was safe and loved, however I had to learn to show people that I loved them in a different way because they didn’t like physical touch.

As I look at things that I have done in the past, I have learned that I show love by giving gifts. It could be in the form of a card or an actually present or paying for dinner or a hundred other things, but that is how I express it. Again this is a little unusual that I would choose this one because the rest of my family is completely verbal in giving and receiving. Of course I have always felt that I was unable to express myself as well as everyone else in my family (a little verbally handicapped in comparison) so I found I was more comfortable doing something different.

As I continue learning, I really try to express my love in the love language of the person with whom I am dealing. Sometimes it is totally obvious and other times I can’t tell at all. If we didn’t discuss things like this in my family, my guess is that they would think that I wanted to receive love the same way that I give it. So I try to watch these patterns in others to see if they are actually giving in a way that is different from how they actually want to receive.

Needless to say I am typically always up for a hug that lasts a while!

Tonight: the Utah Symphony

I am a sucker for the arts. There is something so magical about leaning your head back, closing your eyes and absorbing the sounds of each individual instrument. It makes my blood rush every time.

As a side note.....

The conductor tonight was none other than David Cho! David, I wasn’t aware that you lead this double life in Utah! If you think that it will enable you to spy on my Utes for the upcoming game against UCLA, it is a lost cause my friend!
